Job Details

Jonathan Hinder MP is seeking a Senior Digital Communications Officer to lead on digital-first communications, with a particular focus on growing the MP’s reach and impact on social media – across multiple channels, but especially Facebook in the constituency.

Based in Westminster, the role covers both parliamentary and constituency work. The successful candidate will be creative, strategic, and digitally fluent, able to turn political activity into clear and engaging content that resonates with Jonathan’s constituents. While the focus will be digital communications, the successful applicant will also support press and media engagement when required, driving progress on Jonathan’s political priorities.

The successful candidate must have a very clear understanding of the issues facing small towns in the North of England, and of the corresponding political priorities. Knowledge of Pendle and Clitheroe would be an advantage but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver a proactive digital communications strategy, with Facebook growth at its core.
  • Produce compelling multimedia content – graphics, video, short clips – to highlight local and parliamentary work.
  • Draft clear, engaging copy tailored for social platforms and newsletters.
  • Monitor analytics to guide strategy and improve reach.
  • Manage the MP’s online presence across his social media accounts.
  • Draft press releases and maintain links with local media where needed.
  • Support events and campaigns with effective communications, including travelling to the constituency where required.
  • Track local and national conversations to identify opportunities and risks.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience managing social media channels, particularly Facebook, with evidence of audience growth.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to adapt tone for different audiences.
  • Strong digital content skills – design and video editing (Canva, Kapwing, or similar).
  • Exceptional understanding of UK politics and issues affecting the North of England.
  • Ability to interpret analytics and apply insights.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and able to meet tight deadlines.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Pendle and Clitheroe.
  • Experience running paid social campaigns.
  • Experience of working in politics, either in Westminster or elsewhere.
