Job Details

The purpose of the role is to support the casework of Lee Dillon MP by providing information, advice and support to constituents on a variety of issues.

Caseworkers play an important role in an MP's office, supporting the MP to ensure that constituents' concerns are heard and addressed.You will be liaising with Government departments, local councils, the voluntary sector and a range of other bodies.

The position is full-time (37.5 hours a week), flexible working arrangements are available for the right candidate. You will be working in the Newbury constituency office.

Under the supervision of the Senior Caseworker, you will be responsible for managing a large caseload, ensuring that actions are taken and constituents kept informed throughout. Previous experience working in a similar role, interacting with the public and advocating on their behalf, would be advantageous but willingness to learn is more important. The successful candidate will be an effective and empathetic communicator, in writing and in person, and be committed to helping Lee's constituents.

Key responsibilities

  • Assisting at surgeries and other meetings, taking notes and following up as necessary. From time to time, these events will be held at places other than the constituency office
  • Dealing with queries on policy, as well as assisting with large numbers of more complex, individual problems raised by phone, email, letter, social media or in person. Continuing communication about a case is usually necessary
  • Gathering relevant information to assist with resolving cases and drafting bespoke responses
  • Logging all cases, monitoring progress and ensuring actions are taken promptly
  • Dealing with each case promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately, in line with Lee's aims and objectives
  • Ensuring records are kept and information managed in accordance with data protection legislation
  • Being a supportive team member, willing to assist with other tasks as required. This might occasionally involve working outside standard office hours and/or travelling to another location
