Job Details
You will provide a full service of Parliamentary support for Peter, who represents a never-before Labour constituency.
You will understand the values of the Labour Party and demonstrate a genuine interest in supporting Peter to deliver his objectives in serving constituents and the community.
This is a diverse role combining administrative support with research and policy work, producing high-quality written material.
Key responsibilities:
• Research & develop/maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of legislation & parliamentary business, particularly those that align with Peter’s areas of focus
• Process and respond to a high volume of correspondence from constituents on a wide range of Policy issues
• Draft external communications including speeches for Peter
• Compile briefing packs, take notes of meetings & draft appropriate submissions
• Help draft amendments for reports & prepare briefings to ensure Peter is fully supported including for committees, press, parliamentary questions etc
• Engage with all stakeholders positively through telephone enquiries, social media, email & face to face
• Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed
• Analyse, evaluate & interpret data to ensure Peter is accurately informed on key issues
Person Specification:
• Well-developed literacy, numeracy & communication skills
• Highly motivated and able to plan, prioritise & manage own workload to meet agreed objectives
• Ability to work collaboratively
• Sound analytical thinking/problem solving skills
• Proven ability to deal with difficult & sensitive situations & to maintain confidentiality
• Knowledge & understanding of the political system operating in the UK & relevant legislation, or the ability quickly to assimilate this knowledge
• Excellent IT skills
• Ability to provide management information & reports in a range of formats
• Ability to work under pressure & deliver to challenging & critical deadlines
