Debbie Abrahams MP is looking for a Researcher to join her team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare briefing notes and research materials for Parliamentary debates, questions and meetings
- Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed – particularly poverty, health inequalities, social security and disability related issues
- Use your knowledge and experience of parliamentary processes to develop and implement strategies for pursuing the MP's objectives in Parliament and in her Constituency
- Draft letters and other correspondence to ministers, committees and MPs on topics of importance to the constituency
- Research and draft responses to constituents on a wide variety of policy issues
- Maintain and utilise knowledge of relevant legislation, including impact on the MP’s policy interests and the local constituency
- Research local, regional or national issues to support the MP’s work
- Advise and ensure the MP is fully briefed on potential questions and motions to be put to the House
- Horizon-scanning, anticipate what advice or action may be required; proactively identify problems and resolve them
- Have working knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and upcoming business, including how they impact on the constituency
- Work closely with staff in both the constituency and parliamentary offices
- Support the delivery of the MP’s communications strategy via social media platforms, print and broadcast medie
Required Skills:
- A keen interest in politics and current affairs
- Direct experience of using parliamentary processes and procedures
- Well organised and able to prioritise, plan and respond flexibly to what is required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
- A motivated and enthusiastic approach to a busy MP
