Job Details
You will provide Parliamentary support for Terry, who represents a rural Labour constituency. You will understand and be sympathetic to the values of the Labour Party and demonstrate a genuine interest in rural issues and supporting Terry to deliver his key campaign objectives in serving constituents and the community.
This is a diverse role combining administrative support with research and policy work:
• Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure Member is accurately informed on key issues
• Prepare external communications including speeches for the MP
• Attend and participate in meetings
• Compile briefing packs, take notes of meetings and draft appropriate submissions
• Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc on issues of national and local importance.
• Diary Management
• Efficient data management to ensure compliance with GDPR legislation
• Engage confidentially, professionally, with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, email and face to face
• Give advice on policy issues and horizon scan
• Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business including impact on the constituency
• Draft amendments for reports and prepare briefing material
• Maintain positive on-going relationships with all stakeholders
• Monitor media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues
• Prepare and present briefing notes for committees, press releases, parliamentary questions etc.
• Provide generalist admin support
• Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries including oversight of main email inbox
• The role holder may be occasionally required to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work
• To advise and ensure the MP is fully briefed on potential questions and motions to be put to the House
• Undertake research as directed
• Work collaboratively and proactively with colleagues in communications/casework to identify potential impacts from the research work and identify themes from casework
• Monitor social media activity working alongside Communications Officer
• Prepare responses to policy and campaign casework enquiries
• Work from the constituency minimum monthly
