Length of Contract: Permanent, with a 6 month probationary period

Job Details

Elaine Stewart, Member of Parliament for Ayr, Carrick & Cumnock, is looking for an experienced and well organised person to join her team as a Caseworker. 

Key Responsibilities:
• Research relevant information to assist with resolving cases.
• Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken effectively.
• Engage professionally, confidentially with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, emails and face to face.
• Draft responses to constituents.
• Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation.
• Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially, and accurately in accordance with the MP.
• Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email or face-to-face.
• Liaise with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters.
• Manage a large caseload of complex cases
• Assist with surgeries and other events and follow up as appropriate.
• Liaise with stakeholders to resolve constituency matters.
• Develop knowledge in specialist areas.
• Manage a large caseload of complex cases, working in a professional, confidential, caring and sensitive manner.


Skills and Experience:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and good attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong capability to empathise and handle sensitive issues.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in a casework or similar advisory role is highly desirable.
• Good IT skills inc. MS Office
• Sympathetic to the aims, values and objectives of the Labour Party


Desirable skills:
• Previous experience in a political environment or with an elected representative.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock constituency.


Essential skills:
• Driving License and Car

Working Hours

• 37.5 hrs/week. The core hours for the role are 8:30 - 4:30 Monday to Friday and flexible working is not available.

• There will be a requirement for the role holder to work evenings and weekends outside of the normal working hours for which TOIL will be granted
