Job Details
An opportunity has arisen for a Parliamentary Assistant to join the office of Rt Hon Wendy Morton MP for Aldridge-Brownhills and Shadow Minister of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.
The role will primarily support the Chief of Staff with administrative duties relating to policy and Wendy’s shadow ministerial duties.
The role would suit a self-motivated, competent and confident individual who can work on their own whilst also being a strong team player, working closely with the constituency office team.
Some knowledge and experience of working in Parliament is also required.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Providing members of the public with information, advice and support over the telephone and in writing.
• Responding to constituent queries, including on issues of Government policy, and assisting with some casework.
• Drafting policy responses to constituents and correspondence to Ministers.
• Ensuring that accurate records are maintained and updated with deadlines for future action.
• Maintaining absolute discretion and adhering to Data Protection Act principles at all times.
• Opening and despatching mail.
• Looking after visitors, organising Parliamentary tours & PMQ tickets for constituents.
• Carrying out any other administrative tasks and duties as and when required in order to contribute to the efficient running of the office of Wendy Morton MP.
Required experience/skills:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Ability to prioritise own workload and work to tight deadlines under pressure.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Experience of working in the House and a broad knowledge of political protocol and procedures.
An interest in current affairs, national politics and sympathy with Conservative Party values would be desirable.
