Job Details

This exciting role is designed to help Lisa Smart with her parliamentary work and her spokesperson briefs, focusing a first-class service for people and communities in her constituency, and working on her parliamentary campaigns.

The role is designed to be full-time with a split contract. The majority will be working for Lisa Smart MP and with a small amount of work for the Hazel Grove Constituency Liberal Democrats (HGCLD). The role is based in Westminster.

Key responsibilities:

• Assist with casework.
• Attend meetings with the MP and/or on her behalf as appropriate, take notes and follow up on actions agreed.
• Engage with party and parliamentary colleagues, constituents, organisations, members of the public, etc., in a professional, warm and confident manner.
• Help Lisa with writing official questions, speeches and other correspondence as applicable.
• Keep Lisa informed on any trends or developments in parliament, the press, nationally or local, etc., in areas that are of interest to Lisa's constituents and organisations and constituency campaigns.
• Make sure Lisa is prepared for meetings, debates, briefings, sessions, visits or other diary commitments or parliamentary busine.
• Proactively find opportunities to raise constituents' concerns and constituency campaigns through Lisa's work in parliament.
• Undertake research and run projects on subjects relevant to Lisa’s work for the constituency.

Skills required:
• Experience of working in a busy office (ideally in a political environment).
• Knowledge of the workings of Parliament.
• Excellent organisational skills, ability to prioritise a demanding workload while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle challenging situations.
• Awareness and understanding of current political issues.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.
