Job Details

Antonia Bance MP is seeking a self-starting Community Engagement Officer to join her constituency team.

This varied and rewarding role involves working directly with residents, community groups, and local agencies. The purpose is to make sure that Antonia helps make real change on the ground in communities across Tipton, Wednesbury and Coseley, and is able to use that insight to inform her work in Parliament.

What this looks like in practice: listening to residents, running mailings and surveys, finding out what Antonia needs to act on, organising community action, working with local partners, helping shape projects that make a difference, campaigning alongside local residents, and making sure Antonia can raise their concerns in Parliament.

Key Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and drive forward constituency projects with local agencies, solving problems and making thing work better
• Build and maintain strong relationships with community groups and other stakeholders
• Organise and staff residents’ meetings, ward meetings and street surgeries and make sure actions are followed up
• Run a rolling plan of ward-by-ward activity, including mailings, surveys, meetings, development and communications
• Analyse feedback from surveys and consultations and prepare briefing notes
• With the office manager, manage scheduling, visits and community events for the MP
• Maintain awareness of local issues and community events

Skills & Attributes:
• Experience of campaigning and community organising
• Excellent interpersonal and project management skills
• Proactive and organised, able to work independently
• Motivated with a strong work ethic
• Great verbal and written communications skills

Knowledge of the Black Country and the West Midlands would be an advantage. The successful applicant will be in sympathy with the values of the Labour party and labour movement, and share Antonia’s determination to raise up our area, end poverty and make sure everyone has a decent home and a decent job.

This job is about community engagement on the ground in Antonia’s patch. You need to live within commutable distance and be prepared to work in the constituency most of the time. Our office is in Wednesbury, less than 30 mins by metro from central Birmingham.
