Job Details

Fred Thomas MP, Member of Parliament for Plymouth Moor View, is looking for an enthusiastic and confident person to join his Plymouth office as a part time constituency intern, working on a Thursday and Friday.

Fred was elected as the Labour MP for Plymouth Moor View in July 2024. He has an office within the constituency from which his team is based. All staff are expected to be able to attend the constituency office to work.

Flexibility to work on the occasional evening and weekend will be required, which will be compensated with time off in lieu.

This is a varied role to supplement and support the work of the casework team. Responsibilities will include:

  • Accompanying the MP for visits in Plymouth
  • Creation of content, including taking photographs, editing videos and drafting of posts for social media
  • Support with community engagement in the constituency
  • Drafting of policy responses on current issues

Essential criteria:

  • Strong written, communication and analytical skills with a good telephone manner and attention to detail
  • Excellent command of written English is required to produce high quality correspondence, representing the MP in letters and emails
  • Experience of keeping accurate, high-quality notes

Highly desirable criteria:

  • A full, clean UK driving license and use of a vehicle

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interviews will be held on Thursday 20 November in Plymouth with a view to the role starting as soon as possible after this.
