Job Details

Frank McNally MP is seeking to recruit a highly motivated parliamentary assistant based at his office in Westminster. The successful candidate will be strategic, with excellent political judgement, and able to manage a potentially high workload.

The successful applicant will work with Frank and his team to effectively serve the residents of the Coatbridge and Bellshill constituency. A commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party is highly desirable.

This will be a part-time role (18.5 hours per week), with a requirement to work Monday afternoons, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Key responsibilities:

• Act as first point of contact within the Westminster office
• Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure Frank is accurately informed on key issues
• Assist in writing external communications, including speeches.
• Assist with casework as required
• Undertake research on relevant subjects
• Attend and participate in meetings as appropriate
• Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including: motions, legislation, debates, questions, APPGs, etc. This would include preparation of briefings on UK, Scottish and constituency issues
• Support Head of Office with diary management
• Assist Senior Parliamentary Adviser with communications activity
• Efficient data and file management to ensure compliance with data protection
• Where required, engage professionally, with members of the public
• Give advice on policy issues
• Maintain positive relationships with stakeholders
• Project work
• There may be a requirement to work outside of normal hours and travel to the constituency on occasion
• Other duties commensurate with the role

Skills and Experience:

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of UK and devolved structures, legislation and processes
• Ability to handle challenging situations
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail
• Understanding of current affairs
• Good political judgement
• Excellent time management
