About us
The Professional Publishers Association (PPA) is the voice of UK magazine media. From household-name titles like Vogue, Empire and Good Housekeeping to leading B2B brands, our 250+ members shape culture, inform policy and connect communities.
About the role
This is a step up from an Executive role. You'll manage defined policy areas and represent the PPA to policymakers and partners. You’ll lead consultations, produce high-quality briefings and position papers, coordinate stakeholder coalitions, and help deliver our UK-wide public affairs strategy. You’ll brief senior colleagues and members, and deputise for the Head of Policy & Public Affairs when required.
You’ll take ownership of public affairs work on supply chain issues (including sustainability laws), postal services (service quality and pricing), and lead policy work on the BBC Charter Review — building strong relationships with policymakers, regulators and industry partners.
What you’ll do
· Monitor & analyse: Track political, legislative and regulatory developments and distil complex updates into clear, timely insight.
· Write & influence: Draft consultation responses, submissions and briefings for Ministers, MPs, officials and regulators.
· Lead portfolios: Own policy work on EUDR/sustainability, postal services and the BBC Charter Review.
· Engage stakeholders: Build relationships with parliamentarians, advisers, officials and regulators (e.g. Ofcom, ICO, CMA, Royal Mail).
· Represent the sector: Attend meetings, roundtables and forums; present positions credibly and diplomatically.
· Support delivery: Execute the public affairs strategy, coordinate member groups and coalitions, and track progress.
Who we’re looking for
· Strong grasp of UK political processes and public affairs, including devolved contexts.
· Experience in policy analysis, monitoring and stakeholder engagement.
· Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate complex policy clearly.
· Proactive, organised and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
· Confident relationship-builder with external credibility.
· Desirable: experience in sustainability, postal or supply chain policy; in trade bodies or regulated industries; and/or understanding of EU/international processes.
