Job Details
Connor Naismith MP is looking for a dedicated full or part time Parliamentary and Research Assistant to join his busy team, based either in his Crewe office, or in Westminster. Mainly focused on helping to bring constituents concerns to Parliament, as well as undertaking research on relevant subjects as directed and managing his busy diary.
Key responsibilities
• Analyse, evaluate, and interpret data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues.
• Assist in writing external communications including speeches for the MP.
• Assist with casework as required, including exposure and management of complex cases.
• Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed.
• Attend and participate in meetings as appropriate.
• Compilation of briefing packs for MPs, take notes of meetings and draft submissions.
• Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc. This would include issues of importance both nationally and in the local constituency.
• Diary Management.
• Give advice on policy issues.
• Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business.
• Help draft amendments for reports and prepare briefing material.
• Maintain positive on-going relationships with all parties including members of the public, groups, suppliers, and Westminster where required.
• Prepare and present briefing notes for committees, press releases, parliamentary questions etc.
• Project Management.
• Provide generalist admin support.
• Work with colleagues in communications/casework to identify potential impacts from the research work and disseminate them effectively.
• There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally
Skills Required
• Excellent research skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Able to work individually and as part of a small team
• Sound ability to deal effectively and sensitively with constituents in person, by telephone and in writing
