Job Details

Jack Abbott MP is looking for a Parliamentary Assistant to support his work representing the people of Ipswich in Parliament. We are looking for someone who is looking to work 2.5- 4 days a week. This could be someone who is already working in Parliament and looking for additional hours, or someone who wants to work part time around other commitments.

Job Requirements

  • Attend and participate in meetings as appropriate
  • Compilation of briefing packs for MPs, take notes of meetings and draft appropriate submissions
  • Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc.
  • Provide generalist admin support
  • Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries
  • There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
  • Organisation of events
  • Work with colleagues in the casework team to identify potential impacts from the research work and disseminate them effectively
  • Liaison with local journalists

Personal Specification

  • A keen eye for detail
  • The ability to work flexibly as part of a small team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in relevant software
  • Ability to handle difficult or emotive situations in a sensitive manner
  • Highly motivated and well organised - able to prioritise & respond to a high volume of diverse work
  • Sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party
