Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Westminster office of Dr Peter Prinsley, Member of Parliament for Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket as a Parliamentary Researcher.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in politics, policy, and public affairs, who can provide high-quality research support and contribute to the MP’s work in Parliament and on behalf of constituents. The successful candidate will play a key role within our small dedicated team in shaping briefings, speeches, parliamentary questions, and campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct in-depth research on a wide range of policy issues and current affairs to support the MP’s work in Parliament.
• Prepare briefings, reports, speaking notes, and draft responses to policy correspondence.
• Monitor parliamentary business, including legislation, debates, select committees, and relevant developments.
• Draft parliamentary questions, speeches, and articles.
• Work collaboratively with team members to coordinate campaigns, media activity, and stakeholder engagement.
• Liaise with external stakeholders, including think tanks, NGOs, and constituents, to gather information and build networks.
• Support the MP in developing and delivering campaigns on local and national issues.

Person Specification:

Essential:

• Strong research and analytical skills with excellent written communication.
• Knowledge of UK Parliament and political processes.
• A collaborative approach and ability to work as part of a close-knit, supportive team.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Sound political judgment and sensitivity to confidentiality.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Commitment to the values and political objectives of the Labour Party.

Desirable:

• Previous experience in Parliament, policy, journalism, or political campaigning.
• Local knowledge of the constituency is an advantage though not essential.
