Job Details

David Lammy MP is looking for a Senior Parliamentary Researcher to join his Westminster office.
The successful candidate will work as part of a small team to support David in representing Tottenham.

Key responsibilities:

  • Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the MP is informed on key issues;
  • Deal with complex queries on MPs' behalf;
  • Speech-writing for local, parliamentary and political events;
  • Horizon-scan, anticipate advice or action required; identify problems & resolve them;
  • Maintain knowledge of impacts of legislation on local constituency;
  • Prepare briefing notes for constituency visits;
  • Monitor local, regional/national media coverage and social media to brief MP on relevant issues, particularly where there are impacts in Tottenham;
  • Lead communications relating to the constituency, e.g. newsletters, social media, videos and photography, drafting social media posts;
  • Respond to correspondence and enquiries from constituents, media, lobbyists and pressure groups;
  • Take ownership of complex casework as required;
  • Accompany MP on constituency and political visits as required;
  • Produce and present high quality written reports, briefing notes, and advice;
  • Lead on project work as required;
  • Support with routine office admin as required;
  • Supervise junior members of the team when required by the Head of Office;
  • There may be a requirement to work outside of normal working hours.

Skills and experience required include:

  • Experience in a political role;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear responses;
  • Good local/regional/national political knowledge;
  • Experience in political campaigns and social media, including management of social media channels;
  • Knowledge of the Labour Party's governance structures and policy-making processes;
  • Strong research and analytical skills;
  • Some experience in video production, including filming and editing;
  • Organised, attention to detail, conscientious, empathetic;
  • Strong multi-tasking and time management skills;
  • Ability to handle a large and complex workload;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team;
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour party;
  • Strong political knowledge, understanding and judgement;
  • Casework experience (desirable);
  • Experience in managing junior staff members (desirable).
