About the Role
We’re recruiting a Constituency Support Officer to help run the daily work of the office — managing correspondence, explaining policy positions, and ensuring every resident’s voice is heard.
This role suits someone with strong communication skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys engaging with people, and represents Jonathan’s work with professionalism. You’ll handle constituent enquiries and casework, helping connect the community to their MP.
Key Responsibilities
• Respond to constituent enquiries on local and national issues by email, letter, and phone.
• Draft clear, accurate, and empathetic responses on policy matters.
• Identify issues raised through community engagement and turn them into casework where needed.
• Monitor social media channels, flagging key concerns and emerging issues.
• Assist with surgeries and meetings, ensuring prompt follow-up.
• Support non-party-political updates about surgeries, news, and local campaigns.
• Track local media and community discussions and share insights with the team.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records in line with data protection law.
• Contribute to community engagement, outreach, and efficient office operations.
Essential Skills and Experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Strong digital awareness and confidence using online tools.
• Organised, accurate, and able to manage high enquiry volumes.
• Professionalism, empathy, and discretion with constituents.
• IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
• Commitment to Labour values and understanding of UK politics.
Desirable Experience
• Experience using casework systems (e.g. Caseworker.mp).
• Work in communications, media, or a parliamentary office.
• Knowledge of Hartlepool’s people, services, and networks.
• Understanding of government structures and processes.
