Preet Kaur Gill MP, Member of Parliament for Birmingham Edgbaston is looking for a Personal Assistant to join her team.
This is a full-time role (5 days a week)
Candidates should be highly literate and personable with a good telephone manner. They should be extremely well organised with a strong attention to detail in a time pressured situation and be able to act independently and use their initiative.
They will report directly to Preet.
Candidates must be able to show a commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
Key responsibilities and skills.
- Open, action, post, and social media enquiries
- Diary management, and managing Preet’s inbox.
- Assist with arrangements for meetings, events and organising trips.
- Respond to enquiries by telephone, email, and social media, passing on queries to another team members/MP as appropriate.
- Photocopying, filing, record-keeping and typing correspondence.
- Engage professionally, confidentially and with care and integrity with members of the public.
- Assist in the writing of speeches/letters
- Assist in the compilation of briefing packs.
- Assist in the updating of social media on request.
- Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation.
- Note taking.
- Database management using office software (e.g. Microsoft Office).
- Ability in and understanding of effective and appropriate use of AI and tech.
- Occasional, working out of office hours may be required.
- Prior experience of working as a personal assistant is desirable but not essential
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
