                    Job Details
                    David Taylor MP is looking for a talented and motivated Parliamentary Assistant to join his Westminster team. The role would suit an experienced Parli. Assistant wishing to build on their existing experience or someone looking to take the next step in their parliamentary career.
This is an exciting opportunity to support David’s work in Parliament, drive his national and local communications, and contribute to policy development for the people of Hemel Hempstead. You will be required to work flexibly in the constituency as well as in parliament.
Main Responsibilities
• Lead or support on media and communications, including drafting press releases, articles, and speaking notes for national and regional media
• Produce high-quality research and briefing materials ahead of debates, questions, and meetings
• Monitor political developments, legislation, and government policy relevant to Hemel Hempstead and David’s parliamentary priorities
• Draft and table written and oral parliamentary questions
• Prepare policy-related correspondence for constituents
• Build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders, national organisations, and media contacts
• Manage and prioritise a varied workload, balancing parliamentary and constituency priorities
• Contribute to the planning and coordination of meetings, events, and APPG activity
• Work closely with colleagues in both Westminster and Hemel Hempstead offices to ensure joined-up communication and policy delivery
• Handle sensitive information and data in line with data protection regulations
Skills and Experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce concise and engaging material for both parliamentary and public audiences
• Strong analytical and research skills, with attention to detail and political awareness
• Proven experience in parliamentary, policy, or communications work (Senior applicants should demonstrate strategic experience or leadership)
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
• Confident working independently and taking initiative
• Professional and collaborative approach to working with colleagues, stakeholders, and journalists
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party, with sound political judgment
