Job Details

An exciting opportunity to work with Jess Phillips MP and her team in her constituency office. In this important and rewarding caseworker role, you will help provide a high level of service to Jess and her constituents. Candidates do not require prior work experience of working for a Member of Parliament but should have experience of working in a people focussed role and/or dealing with the public in a calm, kind and respectful manner. A good standard of written and spoken English and a professional telephone manner are essential.

This is a full-time, office-based role in Birmingham.

Duties will include:

  • Managing and progressing a portfolio of casework;
  • Dealing with correspondence, telephone enquiries and emails, providing timely responses;
  • Liaise wiith local and national government agencies, voluntary sector and other third parties to resolve constituency matters;
  • Research and act upon relevant information in order to progress and resolve constituent's cases effectively and appropriately;
  • Ensure information is entered, progressed and maintained within the Caseworker database system;
  • Ensure that all information is treated in a sensitive and confidential manner and in accordance with GDPR;
  • Organise and participate in MP surgeries and meetings with constituents.

Skills required will include:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Ability to learn and advise on issues (including housing, welfare benefits and local authority matters) in a thoughful manner;
  • Good knowledge of office based IT systems and administrative tasks;
  • Able to work individually-good personal organisation-and as part of a team-clear communication is essential;
  • Willing to gain awareness of the activities of an MP's office;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a sensitive and public facing role.

The successful candidate will be expected to start as soon as possible, subject to notice periods.
