                    Job Title: Senior Researcher (International Development and Foreign Policy)

                    Job Details
                    We are looking for an experienced researcher to help develop a Labour-facing international development advocacy programme.
The successful candidate will work alongside a campaign director and with Labour MPs, Lords and policy experts to develop a policy and advocacy programme which aims to support the Government in its international development objectives, taking into account wider foreign policy priorities.
The ideal candidate will be highly organised with strong communication skills and attention to detail. Previous experience in development and foreign policy is highly desirable, but not essential. Previous experience in Parliament would be a significant advantage.
Key responsibilities
• Research key issues related to international development and wider foreign policy, with the goal of providing Government with policy ideas, evidence and strategy
• Contact MPs, Lords, policy experts and NGOs to gather evidence
• Organise events
• Write reports, articles, research briefings to a high standard
• Liaise with development advocates in other nations to gather ideas, intelligence and advice
• Establish and develop appropriate strategies for research development
• Lead on project work as required
• Maintain and utilise knowledge of relevant Government policy and priorities, monitoring changes, including on related issues
• Research and monitor local, regional and national media coverage as well as social media on relevant issues
• Produce and present high quality written reports, briefing notes, and professional advice
Skills required include:
• Experience in a political role, whether in Parliament or public affairs
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, professional responses to constituents
• Organised, attention to detail, conscientious, empathetic
• Strong multi-tasking and time management skills
• Ability to handle a high and complex workload
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour party
• Strong political knowledge, understanding and judgement
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Previous knowledge of the policy area (desirable)
