                    Role Overview
Iqbal Mohamed MP is seeking a capable Parliamentary Assistant for his Westminster 0ffice, as cover for maternity leave. 
The successful candidate will assist Iqbal in his parliamentary duties shaping policy, managing communications, ensuring the smooth running of parliamentary operations, & leading on his policy casework, diary management, admin. support & research.
The successful candidate will join his team on a 6-month fixed-term contract as cover for maternity leave. 
Key Responsibilities
• Manage the MP’s diary, process emails, liaise with stakeholders, & provide effective administrative support.
• Conduct research on legislation, policy areas, prepare briefings & speeches, & draft/table parliamentary questions.
• Track parliamentary proceedings, draft responses, & support the MP’s contributions to debates, meetings, APPGs and events.
• Monitor political developments, legislation, & government policy relevant to Dewsbury & Batley and Iqbal’s parliamentary priorities.
• Collaborate with the Dewsbury & Batley constituency office to ensure coordinated & effective casework support.
• Draft press releases, newsletters, & social media content.
Skills & Experience
• Excellent organisation, diary management & administrative skills.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce concise & engaging material for both parliamentary & public audiences.
• Strong analytical & research skills, with attention to detail & political awareness.
• Proven experience in parliamentary, policy & communications work.
• Ability to manage competing priorities & meet tight deadlines.
• Confident working independently, taking initiative, & handling sensitive information with discretion.
• Professional & collaborative approach to working with colleagues, stakeholders, & journalists.
• Passion for sincere public service, with sound political judgment.
• Alignment with the MP’s values & policy interests.
