Job Details

Apsana Begum MP is looking to recruit a Parliamentary Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working on policy and casework and interacting with members of the public, ensuring their views are heard and represented in Parliament.

Key responsibilities

Casework and Parliamentary work

  • Managing a large caseload of cases including on policy and drafting responses to constituents making contact by phone, email, online and face-to-face.
  • Work with colleagues in communications/casework to identify impacts and opportunities from casework.
  • Assist with the drafting of speeches.
  • Produce graphics and video content to update online platforms.

Analysis, research and reporting

  • Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues and trends.
  • Maintain and develop knowledge on specialist and relevant areas of parliamentary business – motions, Hansard, legislation, upcoming business and debates.
  • Undertake research and produce updates and briefings for press releases, potential questions and parliamentary work.

Project work and management

  • Manage projects and deliver external stakeholder engagement on behalf of the MP and maintain ongoing relationships.
  • Work in a professional, confidential and sensitive manner with members of the public, including those without English as a first language.
  • Organise, attend and deliver meetings, appointments, events, tours, drop-ins, lobby days and APPGs, taking minutes and following up as needed.

Administration

  • Enhancing manuals, templates and office systems and trackers
  • Hold and process data and information confidentially, in line with GDPR.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Attend constituency meetings as appropriate
  • Supervision of staff, interns and volunteers

There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally

This is a full-time role based on 37.5 hours per week.

Interview/Start Dates

Interviews will be held on the w/c 24th November and will involve written tests. The start date will be agreed with the successful candidate and will be no earlier than 12th January 2026.
