Job Details

Kate Osamor MP is seeking a full-time Parliamentary Assistant/Researcher to join her Westminster office. This is a role supporting Kate’s parliamentary work and her advocacy for constituents in Edmonton and Winchmore Hill. The successful candidate will help manage a busy diary, produce parliamentary briefings, build stakeholder relationships, and assist with constituency responsibilities. The role offers scope for development and progression.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct parliamentary and policy research on international, national and local issues
  • Draft speeches, briefing notes, parliamentary questions, and reports
  • Monitor legislation, debates, and media coverage relevant to the MP’s work
  • Provide policy advice and ensure the MP is briefed on Parliamentary business
  • Support the MP’s work with All Party Parliamentary Groups
  • Prepare communications including press releases and external briefings
  • Draft content for communications e.g newsletters, social media posts, videos, website
  • Advise the MP on potential questions and motions to be put to the House
  • Assist with casework and constituency matters as required
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and its impact on constituents
  • Manage diary commitments
  • Liaise with stakeholders, interest groups, external bodies
  • Attend and support meetings and events, occasionally outside normal working hours
  • Ensure data protection compliance and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Undertake other responsibilities in relation to the MP’s parliamentary duties

Skills and experience required include:

  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to handle a large and complex workload
  • Knowledge of UK parliament procedures
  • Good local/regional/national political knowledge, understanding and judgement
  • Experience in political campaigns and social media, including management of social media channels
  • Ability to work independently when required and manage competing priorities
  • Experience in policy, research, or parliamentary work
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital tools
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour party
