Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, is looking for a Political and Digital Communications Officer who shares his values and ambition for the region.

This is your chance to help lead the conversation about the future of the West Midlands - working side by side with the Mayor.

You’ll be right at the heart of political decision-making - capturing moments that matter, driving digital campaigns and helping to tell the story of a region built on fairness, hard work and hope.

We’re looking for someone who’s bold, fast-thinking and ready to push creative boundaries on digital platforms. Someone who can turn political priorities into powerful content that connects with people and sparks real engagement.

This is more than a digital role - it’s a front-row seat shaping how the West Midlands tells its story.

This is a fixed-term contract aligned with the Mayor’s term in office.

What you will be doing.

  • Leading the Mayor’s digital voice across all channels - planning, creating, and delivering content that’s fresh, human, and values-driven
  • Shaping and communicating the Mayor’s political agenda in line with his manifesto
  • Working directly with the Mayor and senior government ministers on visits and key moments
  • Spotting opportunities, setting the narrative and helping the Mayor stay politically sharp and visible
  • Producing multimedia content - photos, videos, graphics and posts that capture real people and real impact
  • Building relationships with MPs, councilors and community leaders across the region to tell the story of change in the West Midlands

What’s essential.

  • A strong grasp of UK politics, local government and devolution
  • Experience turning complex issues into clear, engaging content
  • Excellent judgement, political awareness, and creativity
  • Skill with short-form video, storytelling and visual content tools
  • Confidence working independently in a fast-moving, political environmentFull UK driving license and the ability to attend events to support the Mayor
