Job Details

Jonathan Davies MP is looking for an administrative officer to assist him in serving the people of Mid Derbyshire.

This is a permanent role for 20-25 hours per week based in Jonathan’s constituency office.

Experience in office administration is an asset. However, the role might also be suitable as a six-month fixed-term paid internship for someone wanting to gain experience in an MP's office.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with arrangements for events; this may include: venue research and bookings; compiling and managing guest lists; liaising with suppliers; and providing on-the-day event support
  • Engage professionally, confidentially and with care and integrity with members of the public, through a variety of methods
  • Database management using office software (e.g. Microsoft Office) to handle administrative cases
  • Liaise with suppliers when required regarding office supplies and security
  • Use casework software to carry out daily administrative tasks
  • Assist with casework alongside other staff
  • Attend constituency surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
  • Carry out research to support constituency-based projects

Person specification

  • Competent using IT – including Microsoft Office, email and internet.
  • Polite, confident and empathetic approach to public engagement.
  • Well organised and able to prioritise, plan and respond flexibly to what is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated individual who can manage and prioritise a demanding workload, take initiative and meet deadlines.
  • Use creative thinking to problem solve.
  • Reliable, diligent and professional in always representing the MP and office.
  • Able to build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour party, and able to articulate its key policy positions and values.
