Job Details
Peter Fortune MP is seeking a full time Caseworker for his busy Westminster office. Previous experience is preferred but not essential. More important are strong organisational and IT skills and the ability to work in a busy team, along with a desire and empathy to assist constituents.
The successful candidate will join Peter’s team dealing with constituents, resolving problems on a wide range of issues. The position will be principally based in Westminster; however, we are willing to explore other options to allow for more flexible working once settled in post.
The role includes:
• Dealing with constituents from a variety of backgrounds in a confident, compassionate and sensitive way, often by phone, but also via email and in writing.
• Drafting responses to provide information, advice and support to constituents on a broad range of issues.
• Liaising with Government Departments, local Councils and other organisations to gather information to help resolve cases.
• Managing/progressing casework with meticulous record keeping, whilst monitoring progress and ensuring all necessary actions are taken.
• Maintain, update and develop personal knowledge of demanding, specialised or complex cases.
• Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of relevant guidelines/legislation appropriate to dealing with casework.
• Adhere to data protection and respect confidentiality at all times.
• Other administrative duties as required.
The successful candidate will need to show the following:
• Strong written/oral communication skills and an excellent telephone manner.
• Competent use of IT and the ability to adapt to new software. Knowledge of the Caseworker database an advantage.
• To be able to work with diplomacy, discretion and respect the need for strict confidentiality.
• Knowledge of key social policy issues; welfare benefits, immigration, health etc.
• Highly organised with the ability to prioritise competing demands.
• Ability to work proactively as part of a small team and work flexibly, juggling a range of tasks.
• Broadly sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party.
Familiarity with the constituency of Bromley & Biggin Hill an advantage
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview/Start Dates
First round interviews are likely to take place from the week ending 28th November, following this the successful candidates will be asked to complete a small assessment, due back by 5th December, with a second interview likely in early December and a preferred start date of early January 2026.
