Job Details

Sarah Russell MP is looking to hire a dynamic,confident Communications Officer to work with her and her small team on local and national communications and constituency work. The ideal candidate will be a communications professional who is politically astute and able to develop and plan multi-channel campaigns, as well as react to short deadlines.The role holder will also handle communications with constituents and help with events.

There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and undertake occaisonal travel to Westminster. 

Responsibilities 

  • Lead on external communication, inlcuding the development and delivery of a digital communiations strategy to promote Sarah's parliamentary and constituency work. 
  • Engage in proactive and reactive communications across traditional and digital media to promote the work of the MP and to support achievements in the constituency.
  • Handling constituency correspondence and helping with constituency events.
  • Manage and develop the website.
  • Create engaging content including copywriting, graphic design and video editing.
  • Liaise with local, regional and national media and monitor and evaluate coverage.
  • Prepare press releases, e-newsletters and traditional print items.
  • Create and deliver multi-channel communication plans and materials for campaigns and constituency events.
  • Ensure communications complies with data protection and IPSA protocols.
  • Conduct research into local, regional and national issues to support the MP’s work and inform policy decisions.
  • Support the wider work of the MP’s office as required.

Essential Skills and Requirements:

  • Ability to be a self-starter and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong copywriting abilities for various audiences and platforms.
  • Evidence of an interest in and proficiency at digital design and video editing.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
  • Understanding of GDPR, and experience of maintaining confidentiality.

Desirable:

  • Relationships with local or national media.
  • Solid understanding of current political issues and parliamentary processes.
  • Driving licence and access to own car.
