Location: Swindon

Salary: £27,500

Length of Contract: Contract ending 31st March 2027

Job Details

Heidi Alexander MP is looking for a full-time caseworker to join her team.

Caseworkers play an important role in an MP’s office, supporting the MP to ensure that constituents have timely, effective responses to their enquiries about matters directly affecting their own lives and that prompt action is taken on their behalf.

You will be responsible for managing a large caseload, ensuring enquiries are made of appropriate external organisations (for example the council, housing associations, the police, NHS, DWP and other public and private sector organisations) and that constituents are kept informed throughout.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as well as confidence engaging with and advocating on behalf of a wide range of people.

The successful candidate will preferably work from the Swindon South Constituency Office.

The role is offered on a fixed-term contract basis; however opportunities to make the role permanent may become available upon completion of the contract term.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deal with large numbers of standard queries from constituents, by phone, email, social media or face-to-face, and assist with complex cases. You will work with our team of experienced Caseworkers.
  • Gather relevant information from constituents and external stakeholders to assist with resolving cases.
  • Draft responses to constituents and other stakeholders which reflect the views of the MP.
  • Upload and manage cases through our casework management system, and ensure accurate and up-to-date records are kept in line with data protection legislation.
  • Assist at surgeries and other meetings.

 Skills and Experience:

  • Experience supporting casework or working in related customer service roles.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to independently manage and prioritise a large workload.
  • The ability to act with integrity, confidentiality, and sensitivity in dealing with people and organisations.
  • An interest in politics and an affinity with the aims, values, and objectives of the Labour Party.

There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working office hours and travel for work occasionally.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Closing Date: 28 November 2025
