Job Details
Steve Darling, MP for Torbay, is looking for a motivated team player to join his constituency team
in Torbay to support Steve’s work in championing local issues, leading community campaigns and
communicating his work effectively in the constituency.
The successful candidate will be expected to work 37.5 hours a week of which 1 day would be
over a weekend.
This role is part funded by the local Liberal Democrat Party so the candidate will also be working
with the local party.
Communications, campaigns and/or stakeholder engagement experience would be helpful, but the ability to learn and build relationships quickly is essential.
The successful candidate will work closely with Steve and both his Westminster and constituency
staff to promote his local activity online and with the local media. They will also help Steve to
proactively build relationships with community groups , charities, businesses and schools.
In addition, the role will also assist the team through helping with casework and policy correspondence at peak times, as well as contributing to the smooth running of the of office, ensuring that constituent enquiries are dealt with efficiently and correctly, in line with GDPR.
The work of the successful applicant will include:
- Assisting with maintaining Steve’s communication channels via email, social media and local
press
- Planning and promoting activities, events and campaigns in the constituency and accompanying
Steve to local engagements, where appropriate
- Assisting with responding to campaign and policy emails
- Building a contact database and engagement plan for local voluntary sector groups and
businesses
- Retaining records and information confidentially and in line with GDPR
Among the key skills for this role are:
- Articulate with exceptional written communication skills
- Experience of creating digital content
- Willingness to learn, flexible in approach and open to new ideas
- Excellent time management, able to work under pressure and able to meet tight deadlines
- Proactive, able to manage own workload, prioritise well and excellent organisational skills
- Good networker able to build relationships quickly with local councillors, voluntary groups and
business representatives and local party volunteers
- Able to work effectively in a small team
- Sympathetic to Liberal Democrat values
