Job Details
Deirdre Costigan MP is looking for a 4-day a week Policy and Communication's Officer, based in her Westminster office with regular work in the constituency. The successful applicant will support the wider team across a range of areas, with a focus on delivering clear and effective communication across multiple platforms to engage constituents.
The role will involve responding to policy enquiries from constituents, coordinating replies to organised campaigns and ensuring that the concerns of constituents in Ealing Southall are reflected in Deirdre's communications. The applicant should be a good communicator who can work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft policy responses to constituents and campaign groups, working at pace as issues develop.
- Collaborate to deliver communications outputs and media statements to tight deadlines.
- Jointly maintain regular social media updates.
- Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex policy issues from members of the public by phone, email and social media or face to face.
- Attend constituency meetings, events and surgeries when required.
- Ensure accurate records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with data protection legislation.
- Data management and general administration using office software (e.g. Microsoft Office).
- There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.
Skills required include:
- Good awareness of current affairs and the issues facing the constituency.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to draft clear and professional correspondence for different audiences.
- Proven organisational skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-paced political environment.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain relationships with stakeholders.
- A proactive and can-do approach
- Ability to work with discretion, sensitivity and confidentiality at all times.
- Sympathetic to the values of the Labour Party
Desirable
- Previous experience in communications role
- Previous experience in Parliament or working in a political or public office.
