Title: Constituency Administrative Officer
Office: Constituency office of Dr Sam Rushworth MP (Bishop Auckland)

Purpose:
This is a key role at the epicentre of the constituency office, providing administrative support to the MP, Office Manager, Senior Caseworker, and Communications & Engagement Manager, towards the shared goals of driving impactful positive change across the constituency, providing quality support to individual constituents, and proactively and transparently communicating the MP’s work.

Key responsibilities

1. Management of the MP’s public inbox: Monday to Friday you will be responsible for
managing incoming emails. This requires quick decision-making, good judgement, and an
ability to identify priorities.
2. Organising the MP’s constituency diary: You will have primary responsibility for organising
the MPs diary while he is in the constituency (typically Fridays and Saturdays and during
parliamentary recesses).
3. Constituency Mapping: To support external communication, you will compile and maintain a database with basic information and contacts of key stakeholders within each community.
4. Event planning and organisation: You will assist the Office Manager and Communications &
Engagement Manager with arrangements for events, including venue research and bookings;
compiling and managing guest-lists; liaising with suppliers; and providing on-the-day event
support as required.
5. Support the constituency office team as requested: In addition to the above, you may be
asked to perform other tasks commensurate with your skills and grade in support of
colleagues as and when the need arises.
Conditions
This role is to be constituency-office based, Monday to Friday. Driving licence and access to vehicle preferred due to some travel about the community.

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise and manage their own workload
  • Has the ability to work on their own initiative
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times
  • Capacity to respond patiently and politely to changing demands from constituents
