About the Role
Dr Zubir Ahmed, Labour MP for Glasgow South West and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, is looking for a dedicated and empathetic Case Worker to join his constituency team.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage Casework: Handle a diverse caseload of constituent enquiries, providing advice and support on issues including Universal Credit, PIP, state pensions, immigration status, housing, and healthcare.
• Phonecalls and meetings : Dealing with incoming casework queries and cases via telephone, email and advice surgeries.
• Agency Liaison: Act as the primary liaison with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the Home Office, Glasgow City Council, and other relevant agencies to resolve complex cases.
• Drafting Correspondence: Draft professional and timely letters and emails on behalf of the MP to ministers, government officials, and constituents.
• Surgeries: Assist Dr Ahmed at constituency surgeries and meetings, documenting issues raised and ensuring follow-up actions are taken.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential records of all interactions using the Caseworker.mp database (or similar software), ensuring compliance with GDPR.
• Trend Analysis: Identify patterns in casework (e.g., recurring delays with a specific benefit) to brief the MP on issues affecting the local community.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Values:
• Experience: Previous experience in casework, advice handling, or a similar public-facing role is highly valued.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulations in plain English.
• Empathy: A patient and non-judgmental approach to dealing with constituents who may be vulnerable or distressed.
• Organisation: Ability to prioritise a heavy workload and work independently under pressure.
Desirable Criteria:
• DWP Experience: Direct experience working with or navigating the DWP system (Universal Credit, PIP appeals, sanctions).
• Home Office Experience: Knowledge of the UK visa and immigration system or experience handling asylum/residency cases.
• Local Knowledge: Understanding of the Glasgow South West constituency and its specific local challenges.
