Job Details

Clive Lewis MP is seeking a Senior Parliamentary Assistant to join his Westminster team for a fixed-term contract (maternity cover).

The roleholder will play an important role supporting the MP’s parliamentary work, delivering key projects and campaigns, and overseeing the day-to-day running of a busy Westminster office.

This is a multi-faceted role involving research, communications, and campaigns. The ideal applicant has exceptional organisational skill and a good understanding of how Parliament works, as well as the ability to plan and deliver high quality projects and campaigns.

The roleholder will report to and receive ongoing guidance from the Research Manager. The roleholder will have access to training provided from the House of Commons.

What a typical day involves

  • Meeting the MP and Research Manager to forward plan.
  • Monitoring parliamentary business, advising the MP and Research Manager on opportunities.
  • Creating project and campaign plans to shape the MP’s work.
  • Drafting communications materials, like letters, policy emails, social media posts, and statements.
  • Delivering parliamentary activities like debates, questions, and roundtables
  • Preparing briefings to support the MP’s contributions in Parliament and the media.
  • Meeting the constituency team to identify topical issues and plan activities.

Skills and experience (essential)

  • An understanding of how the UK Parliament works
  • Strong political knowledge, understanding and judgemen
  • Experience managing projects and / or campaigns
  • Experience undertaking research and / or policy development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong multi-tasking and time management skills
  • Ability to work under own direction without supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team
  • Ability to deal with issues in a confidential and sensitive manner
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of Clive Lewis MP

Skills and experience (desirable)

  • Experience of people management (either staff or volunteers)
  • Detailed knowledge of UK Parliamentary processes and procedure
  • Experience delivering Parliamentary activities, such as written questions, Early Day Motions etc
  • Experience in social media communications
