Job Details
This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced, dynamic team working for an MP across Westminster and Greater Manchester. You will need to be comfortable with juggling multiple tasks, working under pressure, writing clearly and concisely, thinking politically about ideas, policy, and people, and have a can-do attitude. You would be joining a high-trust team where positivity, trust, and respect are highly valued, talent is supported, and a lot of fun is had.
Responsibilities will include:
- Writing op-eds and press comments in the MP’s voice for local and regional media
- Researching, understanding and taking initiatives on complex, cross-government policy issues for constituency and nationally
- Drafting and editing written outputs on behalf of MP
- Supporting the constituency team on local activities and campaigns, including print, digital and policy direction
- Leading MPs local press and broadcast activity including suggesting hooks and liaising with regional media contacts.
- Drafting posts for social media accounts and assisting in content creation
- Responding effectively to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents on policy matters.
- Assisting and leading, as required, on arrangements for events and meetings.
- Monitoring coverage in the media.
- Progressing constituency casework and liaising with local and national bodies, Government agencies etc.
- Maintaining, updating and developing knowledge of relevant legislation.
Required Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to link local issues to national and vice versa on politics, policy and communications
- Strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of UK political landscape
- Ability to work as well as part of a team but take responsibility for managing own workload as appropraite
- Aptitude on Canva or similar design software
This role can be based in the Westminster or Constituency Office with some required travel to
either part. Although this is a parliamentary role, it will require high levels of focus on constituency matters, with an understanding of local politics and campaigns.
