Job Details
The FES UK Office is seeking to appoint a Programme Officer/Research Associate to support and further develop our work in the thematic fields Good Work & Fair Economy and Social Democracy. The position is based in London and reports directly to the Head of Office. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a small team alongside administrative and academic colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, organise and deliver projects, events and dialogue formats within German-British and European-British relations
• Plan and coordinate bilateral programmes, conferences, workshops and expert discussions, including events delivered in partnership with external organisations
• Identify, liaise with and commission external speakers and moderators
• Represent FES professionally at events and contribute as a speaker when required
• Maintain and expand networks with stakeholders including policymakers, ministries, think tanks, civil society actors and trade unions
• Manage projects independently, including financial oversight, documentation, evaluation and ongoing conceptual development
• Produce written outputs such as reports, articles or academic contributions
• Oversee publication processes, incl. coordination with authors and editorial review
Candidate Profile
• Existing right to work in the United Kingdom (e.g. dual nationality or settled status)
– Initial visa sponsorship is not supported under current legal conditions
• Proficiency in German at minimum B2 level
• Strong identification with the values of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung
• Completed academic degree (Master’s level or equivalent)
• Experience or interest in trade union affairs is desirable
• Strong analytical capability and interest in socio-political developments
• Initial experience in policy advice or political research is advantageous
• Ability to work independently across complex topics and projects
• Confident event organisation and project management skills
• Excellent communication, coordination and teamwork abilities
• Willingness to travel for work and relocate to London if required
• A positive and collegial mindset
