Job Details
Alex Barros-Curtis, the Member of Parliament for Cardiff West, is looking to recruit a talented individual as Parliamentary Assistant.
This is an exciting opportunity to support his work and best serve the constituents of Cardiff West. The successful applicant should be an enthusiastic, organised and highly motivated individual.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting the MP and the constituency office to ensure strong links between Cardiff West and Westminster.
- Undertake effective inbox and diary management and reply to routine correspondence, casework and policy-based casework.
- Respond to routine correspondence and enquires.
- Drafting posts for social media accounts and assisting in content creation.
- Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed, and analyse, evaluate, and interpret data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues.
- Assist the MP with their various parliamentary committee work as required.
- Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business, including motions, legislation, debates, etc.
- Monitor local, regional, and national media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues.
- Prepare and present relevant briefing notes.
- Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business, including how they impact on the constituency.
- Assist in writing parliamentary questions.
- Engage confidentially and professionally with members of the public.
- Maintain positive on-going relationships with all parties, including members of the public, groups, media and other stakeholders.
Skills and experience
- Ability to manage own workload, prioritise and work flexibly under pressure as part of a small team.
- The ability to work often under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, with an ability to express ideas clearly and concisely to a range of audiences, and outstanding attention to detail.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and communicate with respect, sensitivity, and discretion.
- Good knowledge of the British political system and current affairs.
- Knowledge of the constituency of Cardiff West, and the ability to speak and write in Welsh, would be desirable but not essential.
There may be a requirement to work outside of normal working hours or location, including attending events with the MP, and occasional visits to the constituency.
