Job Details
Shockat is looking for a new Parliamentary Assistant to aid his work in Parliament. This is an energic and exciting role supporting a popular MP.
Whilst Parliamentary experience is welcome, we are equally keen to hear from candidates looking for their first role in politics who think they have the transferable skills needed to succeed. By far the most important qualities to us are ideas, enthusiasm and a drive to get the job done.
Excellent written communication skills are a must, as is attention to detail. You'll be drafting correspondence to Ministers, Parliamentary questions and Early Day Motions.
Shockat's interests are broad so you need to be conversant in matters relating to health, inequality, communities and international affairs.
No two days are the same but duties will include:
- Assisting in writing internal & external communications including speeches, questions and early day motions.
- Assisting with casework as required
- Attending meetings and visits when required
- Diary management
- Compilation of briefing packs and taking meeting notes
- Confidential, professional and caring engagement with members of the public and stakeholders
- Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business
- Managing his "inbox"
- Monitor local, regional, and national media coverage and provide briefings on relevant issues
- Monitor social media activity and report any relevant trends to the team
- Respond to routine correspondence and enquires
- Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed
Key Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Enthusiasm, and drive to work independently but also work well with the constituency team
- Good command of IT, website tools and social media applications
- A keen interest in politics and current affairs
- Knowledge of the constituency is beneficial but not essential
