Job Details
Matt Turmaine MP is looking for an experienced Parliamentary Assistant to join his team. The role will be primarily based in Westminster, however regular work in the constituency office will be required.
You will report to the office manager, and liaise with other senior staff as required.
The role will primarily involve:
- Research to aid with Matt’s contributions in Parliament
- Digital communication and content creation
- Stakeholder engagement, including planning and running of events in Parliament and the constituency
Job Requirements:
- Horizon scan upcoming business in Parliament and identify opportunities for Matt to contribute
- Analyse and evaluate data to make sure Matt is accurately informed in key issues and trends, particularly with regard to his constituency
- Provide research for Matt’s contributions in Parliament. Assist in production of briefings, speeches, written and oral questions
- Maintain responsibility for Matt’s social media presence - including planning of media ‘grids’ and creation of digital content. Monitor engagement online and respond where needed
- Identify ways to expand Matt’s online presence and amplify the national Party message
- Organise constituency events and campaigns
- Pursue an active program of stakeholder engagement within the constituency
- Ensure relevant issues raised through constituency casework are adequately represented via Matt’s work in Westminster
- Accompany Matt to meetings in Westminster or visits in the constituency.
- Assist with managing Matt's website
- Organise visits and tours of Parliament for constituents
- There may be a need for the role holder to work outside of normal hours
Person Specification:
- Experience working for an MP, and in digital communication and campaigns, is desirable
- Highly motivated and well organised. Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects, and prioritise tasks
- An eye for detail. Excellent communication skills, and the ability to follow instructions from senior staff as required
- Ability to work flexibly, as the role will require regular work in the constituency as well as Parliament
- Good understanding of social media, and experience of content creation
- Ability to self manage and work individually when required, whilst also being a good team member
- Sympathise with the aims and objectives of the Labour Party
