Job Details

Jacob Collier, the Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter, is looking to recruit a talented individual as Parliamentary Assistant.

This is an exciting opportunity to support Jacob's work and serve his constituents. The successful applicant should be enthusiastic, organised and highly motivated.

Key responsibilities
• Support the MP in Westminster with his day-to-day parliamentary duties.
• Work with the MP to ensure strong links between the constituency team and Westminster.
• Undertake inbox and diary management, reply to correspondence, assist with casework.
• Work with the the constituency team to assist with content creation.
• Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed, and analyse, evaluate, and interpret data to ensure the MP is informed on key issues.
• Assist the MP with his duties on the Transport Select Committee and the Petitions Committee.
• Develop and maintain knowledge on areas of parliamentary business.
• Monitor local, regional, and national media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues.
• Prepare and present briefing notes.
• Have a knowledge of legislation and upcoming business and how they impact the constituency.
• Assist in writing parliamentary questions and speeches.
• Engage confidentially and professionally with members of the public.
• Maintain positive on-going relationships with all parties, including members of the public, groups, media and other stakeholders.

Skills/Experience
• Ability to manage own workload, prioritise, meet tight deadlines and work flexibly under pressure as part of a small team.
• Strong communication skills, with an ability to express ideas clearly and concisely to a range of audiences, and outstanding attention to detail.
• Maintain confidentiality and communicate with respect, sensitivity, and discretion.
• Good knowledge of the British political system and current affairs.
• A desire to learn about the constituency and understand its issues and needs.
• Previous of experience of working in Parliament for an MP would be ideal, but not essential.
• Sympathetic to the ideas and values of the Labour Party.

There may be a requirement to work outside of normal working hours or location, including attending events with the MP, and occasional visits to the constituency.
