The Senior Correspondence Officer plays a central role in ensuring that every letter sent to The King and the Royal Family receives a timely, thoughtful and well‑crafted response. Working within the Royal Household’s Correspondence team, you’ll help manage thousands of messages each year, contributing directly to the public‑facing work of the Monarchy and supporting the department’s shared purpose.
You will oversee your own portfolio of correspondence, drafting bespoke replies to a wide range of social, community and national matters. The role combines high‑volume processing with precision, leadership and a commitment to continuous improvement. You’ll collaborate closely with fellow Senior Correspondence Officers to guide the team, refine practices and uphold consistently high standards. Recording and monitoring correspondence is key, and you’ll take pride in the impact and visibility of your work.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a dedicated portfolio of public correspondence, drafting tailored responses to varied and often unique enquiries.
- Provide leadership, direction and support alongside fellow Senior Correspondence Officers to help achieve departmental goals.
- Process a high volume of letters with accuracy and focus, ensuring timely and appropriate responses.
- Contribute to reviewing processes, developing best‑practice guidance and driving continuous improvement across the team.
- Record, track and monitor all correspondence, maintaining high standards and pride in the quality of output.
Essential Criteria
- Strong administrative experience with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven leadership ability, motivating and developing others to deliver consistently high‑quality work.
- Highly organised, able to manage significant workloads and meet regular deadlines.
- Proactive, confident in drafting letters, and adaptable in using bespoke IT systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in every response.
- Enjoys collaborative working, learning from colleagues and contributing to team success.
