As the MP for Esher and Walton and Party Spokesperson for International Development, I am looking for an experienced Parliamentary Assistant and/or Researcher. Someone that can bring constituency issues, their concerns and stories into Parliamentary speeches and questions. Also, someone that understands how Parliament functions and can manage an MPs parliamentary diary.
Key Responsibilities:
Proactively monitor and anticipate parliamentary opportunities, identifying where strategic action is needed.
Accurately and proportionally respond to political developments as and when they occur.
Lead on a range of political and policy-focused projects, contributing to both national Lib Dem campaigns and local constituency matters.
Draft high-quality speeches, briefings, reports and correspondence ensuring clarity and consistency of message.
Manage my Westminster diary.
Work closely with the constituency office, ensuring parliamentary work is shaped by and responsive to constituents’ casework
Engage with political, parliamentary, and community stakeholders, representing the MP in meetings and helping build constructive cross-party and sector relationships.
Support effective digital and social media communications, helping the MP to reach a wider audience and engage with constituents.
Support casework as required.
Skills Required:
Parliamentary or policy experience and a good understanding of the political landscape.
Excellent political judgement. Able to think strategically and spot opportunities to influence debates or raise local concerns.
Strong initiative and organisational skills. Resilient in a fast moving environment where deadlines are tight.
Awareness of local issues and community priorities, particularly those relevant to the MP’s constituency, and a commitment to evidencing those concerns in Parliament.
Clear and confident communicator, with excellent writing skills and an ability to tailor messages for different audiences.
Flexible, pro-active, solutions orientated and self-motivated. Willingness to work evenings or weekends as required.
Understanding of digital engagement and the media environment, with an engaging, creative and proven approach to public communications.
Sympathetic to Liberal Democrat values.
