Job Overview

We are seeking a proactive and articulate Press Officer to manage and enhance Tom Gordon MP's public relations and media presence. The ideal candidate will be responsible for writing press releases and social media content, developing strategic communication plans, fostering positive relationships with media outlets, and ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms.

Responsibilities
• Prepare press releases, speeches, briefings, and other communication materials tailored to various audiences.
• Create posts for social media including photos, videos and graphics.
• Manage the organisation’s social media channels, ensuring content aligns with branding and messaging standards.
• Monitor media coverage and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media representatives.

• Keep photo bank up to date.
• Upload press releases to the MP's website
• Manage the constituency diary and the MP inbox for constituency matters with support from other team members.
• Assist with arrangements for events – this may include venue research and bookings; compiling and managing guest-lists; liaising with suppliers; and providing on-the-day event support as required.
• Monitor media coverage and analyse public perception of the organisation’s activities.
• Respond promptly to media inquiries and manage crisis communication when necessary.
• Develop and implement comprehensive media and public relations strategies to promote organisational goals.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.

Requirements
• Proven experience in public relations or a similar communications role preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in British English.
• Ability to craft compelling narratives.
• Organised, proactive, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of digital communication tools, social media platforms, and media monitoring software is desirable.
• Good understanding of media landscapes and effective relationship-building with journalists.
