LGIU is a membership organisation that’s been supporting local government for over 40 years.

We empower our member councils and give them what they need to operate effectively. We do that by providing:

• Insight and clarity in a changing world: saving time and helping focus on what really matters
• Ideas, inspiration and networks to meet future challenges and solve complex problems
• Advocacy to champion the sector and create an enabling policy environment.
• We now have a membership of more than 260 councils and public sector organisations across the UK, Ireland and Australia, and our network is growing.

We are seeking a passionate and entrepreneurial Membership Coordinator to join our team and support and expand our membership network.

Local government across our network faces significant challenge – from social fragmentation and the development of AI, to climate risk and the rise of misinformation. At the same time, many of our councils are also navigating major changes. In England, the Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill will alter the very fabric of local government through the biggest set of local government reforms for a generation.

All of this means that now more than ever, we need to hear directly from councils about what they need, and where in the world they’re interested in learning from. We need someone who can synthesise that information and feed it into other LGIU services, including events, training, research, and content.

This role will initially focus on our service for English councils. It will require domestic travel and a keen attention to detail and delivery, meaning disciplined time management and a willingness to spend time away from home.
