Job Details
An exciting opportunity to join a small, dedicated team supporting the MP for Southampton Test, Satvir Kaur. The role will be based in the Southampton constituency office but may include a requirement to provide support in Satvir’s Parliamentary office.
Key responsibilities
Working closely with our Communications Lead, you will:
- Monitor and update Satvir’s social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publishing surgeries and news alerts etc
- Follow up on social media queries and comments, ensuring all enquiries are dealt with in a sensitive and timely manner
- Monitor media coverage, liaise with media and produce press releases as required (on constituency, non-party-political matters)
- Assist with general communications – letters, socials, newsletters, surveys and consultations
- Assist with local campaigns on constituency matters
- Attend local events and activities with Satvir to capture photos, footage, and quotes from constituents.
- Assist with responding to standard queries, drafting responses to constituents and updating the data base
- There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
Essential Skills
- Awareness of current affairs
- Sensitivity when handling controversial issues, and willingness to seek guidance when necessary
- Demonstrable experience in digital communications, including producing and editing graphics and video content. Experience with content management systems, such as WordPress and email marketing platforms such as MailChimp
- Familiarity with social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, X, and Bluesky
- Excellent written, oral and visual communication skills and an ability to cater to different audiences
- Experience of having prepared briefings and press releases
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Starter/finisher.
- Ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with local stakeholders, including local and regional journalists
Desirable Skills
- Experience of working in Parliament, local government, or political / advocacy settings
- Experience in a communications role
- Driving licence
