Job Title: Communications Officer & Caseworker

Working For: Matt Rodda MP (Reading Central)

Location: Reading

Salary: £25,000 to £30,000 pro rata (dependent on experience)

Length of Contract: 12 months fixed term

Job Details

Matt Rodda MP is looking for an adaptable individual to support his team in the constituency office. This is a part-time post - between 2 and 4 days per week.

A full UK driving licence and access to a car is highly desirable. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Communications

The primary responsibilities of the role holder will be to work with colleagues to implement the community engagement plan, and to:

  • Liaise with community-based stakeholders
  • Maintain, grow, and organise our local volunteer network utilising strong communication skills and a good telephone manner
  • Oversee the production, printing, and distribution of parliamentary letters and leaflets
  • Draft social media posts and articles for local media
  • Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required (on constituency, non-party-political matters)
  • Attend events with Matt Rodda MP across the constituency, taking photos and videos when required.
  • Supervise paid interns and work experience students
  • Other tasks, as directed by the member required to help with the successful implementation of the wider communications plan.

Casework

It may also be necessary for the role holder to support the constituency casework team. They will need to be able to:

  • Manage large numbers of standard queries, assist on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media, or face-to-face. Ongoing communication may be required.
  • Assist at surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
  • Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.
  • Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation.
  • Draft responses to constituents.
  • Any further tasks which the MP required to ensure that casework is processed appropriately

Skills and experiences

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure, and produce work quickly and to a high standard
  • Ability to confidently communicate with stakeholders, constituents, and colleagues
  • Willingness to support colleagues with their work
  • Previous experience in an MP’s office is desirable
  • Good political judgement and awareness of current affairs and UK politics
  • Values consistent with the Labour Party
