Job Details
The Rt Hon Sir James Cleverly MP is looking to recruit a proactive, professional, experienced, creative, and politically aware Communications Officer to join his team in Westminster. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of Parliamentary communications, playing a crucial role in communicating the MP’s work in Parliament and the constituency. The position will be based in Westminster but the successful candidate will be required to attend the constituency on a regular basis with Sir James Cleverly when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
• Developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy
• Drafting press releases and media statements and opinion pieces
• Creating engaging content (including graphics and videos) to promote campaigns and local activity, and undertaking associated analytics
• Maintaining a strong online presence aligned with the MP’s priorities and values
• Assisting with stakeholder engagement and outreach campaigns
• Managing the MP’s website and social media accounts (Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
• Monitoring media coverage and flagging relevant issues
• Support with related research activities.
• Other office activities to support the MP, as required.
Essential Skills and Experience:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong research skills
• Demonstrable experience in media, journalism, public relations, or political communications
• Strong political awareness and a good understanding of Westminster and UK politics
• Experience in managing digital channels and social media analytics
• Ability to work proactively, independently, and to tight deadlines
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Demonstrate competency in graphic design/video editing tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Suite, etc.)
• Demonstrate a portfolio of experience covering press, online and social media profiles
• Experience using content management systems (e.g. Mailchimp, Meta Business Suite and all social media content platforms)
• Knowledge and familiarity of parliamentary duties and the work of an MP, including policy interests, and constituency issues.
