Job Details

Mike Martin MP is seeking a Caseworker to join his friendly, hardworking team. This is a meaningful role providing the opportunity to make a real difference to people's lives. You'll support Mike in handling the large volume of correspondence he receives and help to resolve constituents' issues. You'll be enthusiastic, self-motivated, adaptable and have a ‘can do’ attitude. 

Key responsibilities:
• Assess and triage correspondence to identify how issues might be addressed
• Draft responses to constituents and letters to agencies and ministers
• Log all cases, monitor progress and ensure actions are taken
• Manage a large caseload, ensuring each case is dealt with promptly, professionally, sensitively and accurately
• Assist with surgeries and follow up as appropriate
• Liaise with Government agencies and others to resolve constituency matters
• Develop knowledge in specialist areas
• Assist with other tasks, including research, admin and briefings

Essential skills and experience:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Problem solving skills
• Strong organisational abilities with attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team
• Empathetic approach with strong interpersonal skills
• IT literate
• Strong interest in British politics and good political instincts.
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats

Desirable skills:
• Previous casework / customer service experience
• Knowledge of immigration, health, housing, social care or SEND issues
• Familiarity with local issues, parliamentary or governmental processes.

Additional information:
You must be able to obtain and hold security vetting for the duration of your employment. Some work outside normal office hours will be required. Occasional travel within the constituency or to London may be necessary.

Location:
You will primarily be based at the constituency office which is 5 minutes walk from Tunbridge Wells Station. Tunbridge Wells is a 50 minute train journey from London Bridge. Upon successful completetion of the probation period, we may also offer the opportunity to work in Parliament a day or two a week - depending on the needs of the office and availability of space in Westminster.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
