The Secretariat to the APPG on Disability Employment will provide administrative, research and stakeholder support to ensure the APPG operates effectively. The postholder will support parliamentarians to scrutinise policy, convene stakeholders and promote improved disability employment outcomes across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
APPG Administration & Governance
• Support the Co-Chairs to develop and deliver the APPG’s strategy, priorities and KPIs
• Monitor parliamentary business and provide briefings to APPG members
• Act as the main point of contact for MPs, Peers, officials and stakeholders
• Ensure compliance with APPG rules and registration requirements
• Organise meetings, including agendas, papers, minutes and follow-up actions
• Maintain accurate membership records and prepare an annual impact report
Research, Events & Inquiries
• Undertake policy research on disability employment, including Access to Work, workplace adjustments and labour market participation
• Draft briefings, discussion papers and inquiry reports
• Plan and deliver meetings, roundtables, evidence sessions and events
• Support inquiries, including calls for evidence, witness liaison and synthesis of submissions
• Manage logistics, accessibility requirements and speaker coordination
Stakeholder Engagement & Communications
• Build relationships with disabled people’s organisations, employers, unions, charities, academics and government
• Ensure lived experience is reflected in APPG work
• Coordinate sponsorships and funding in line with transparency rules
• Draft communications and maintain mailing lists and digital presence
Person Specification
Essential
• Understanding of Parliament and APPGs, or relevant political or policy experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
• Demonstrable commitment to disability equality and employment inclusion
• Ability to work independently and with cross-party stakeholders
• Experience of event delivery and stakeholder engagement
Desirable
• Lived experience of disability or work with disability organisations
• Experience supporting APPGs, committees or advocacy bodies
• Knowledge of employment, welfare or equality policy
