Salary: £23,810 – £31,327 (IPSA Pay Scales) depending on experience.
Length of Contract: Fixed term - 6 months.
Job Details
Yvette Cooper MP is looking for a constituency support officer to join her constituency office on a fixed term basis, supporting her work for the constituents of Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley.
The role is for 24 hours a week, split across three days.
Key responsibilities:
• Provide a range of administrative support to assist in the running of a busy office.
• Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face. Ongoing communication may be required.
• Confidential document drafting, management, maintenance and review.
• Liaise with constituents, community groups and other local and national stakeholders.
• Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases.
• Diary management including handling administrative arrangements for visits, meetings with partners of the public and surgeries.
• Database management using office software to handle administrative cases.
• Provide briefings for the MP.
• Ensure records are kept and information and information managed confidentially and in line with data protection legislation.
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.
Skills and Experience:
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organisational skills, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Strong political sensitivity and ability to use initiative when appropriate.
• Excellent administrative and organisational skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
• Proficiency in using office software.
• Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion.
• Understanding relationship between constituency and parliament - knowledge/experience Wakefield District / West Yorkshire an advantage.
